Parents of children absent from school for a full day or consecutive full days are required to notify the school in the following manner:
- Advise the school before 9:00am in the morning, via the phone or through completing an online absentee notification.
- Provide a written explanation regarding the child’s absence in writing, outlining the child’s name, date of absence and reason for absence.
- Complete an absentee follow-up form, generated by the school, if required.
- Absentee notes may also be presented in advance for known absenteeism.
The school has a legal requirement to document and store written explanations for ALL absenteeism of students.
If a child is absent from or late to school without notification from the parent/legal guardian, after 9:00am, then an automated SMS Message will be sent, advising that the child is absent and requesting an explanation. Student name, date, reason and parent/legal guardian name should be included in reply text. This practice both notifies parents/legal guardians that the child is not at school and ensures the safe whereabouts of all students.

Parent, Teacher & Student Satisfaction
Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School continually strives to be the best it can be and has a strong reputation within the wider community. Our aim is to provide a high quality, Catholic education for our students, which is inclusive for all students.
We utilise feedback as a method for school improvement. Parents comment on the positive reputation the school has within the community and many recommendations for enrolment come from families and friends involved in our school. A large majority of new enrolments come from recommendations, website activity and social media presence. We are very proud of our school and continue to seek feedback from families for continued improvement through conversation, feedback form on school website, Microsoft Forms and community consultation.
Our parental response to the school’s performance is positive with particular reference to the positive pastoral care and teacher support for students at risk educationally.
Parents are encouraged to offer support in many ways such as being members of the P & F Committee, School Advisory Council, volunteering at events, and helping other families across the school with class representatives. In 2025, our parents continued to have an active role and friendly presence within the school and classrooms.
The staff at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School take great pride in working and being a part of our school community. The staff work collaboratively and effectively with one another both as a whole staff and in teams. They are supportive of one another and continually strive to improve the quality of their teaching and learning environment for our students. The members of our staff understand that they are not only responsible for the learning and wellbeing of the students in their own class but for all children within our school under our care. The staff are valued and are given recognition for their efforts and achievements. The school provides the staff with Professional Learning opportunities and the staff are encouraged to share their learning with others. The school provides adequate support for resources both in personnel and material resources.

School Community Report: Catholic School Advisory Council Chair
First, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to every member of this Advisory Council.
- Thank you for your consistent attendance and active participation at our meetings throughout the year.
- Thank you for your valuable input, which is always given with the best interests of our students and the school at heart.
- And thank you to the school administration for allowing us into this space where we know our advice is genuinely considered and appreciated. It is a testament to Our Lady Star of the Sea’s collaborative spirit.
Now, to the unsung heroes of our school: all the staff—teaching, administrative, and support. Thank you. The work you are doing is nothing short of amazing. You are providing our students not just with an education, but with an amazing schooling experience. This encompasses not only the delivery of a high-quality curriculum but also the inclusive, nurturing environment you continue to foster every single day.
In particular, the ongoing work you are doing to incorporate initiatives such as the Berry Street Education Model and your school curriculum, and to embed these principles in your approach, is highly valued. It shows a commitment to evidence-based practice and ensuring that every single student is seen, supported, and allowed to flourish academically and emotionally.
As we close out the school year, let us reflect on the many achievements and successes, and wish Mr Shaw the very best in his future endeavours.
While we will miss his leadership, we move forward with confidence, knowing the strength and talent within our school community.
